Introduction

Hollywood Road, sometimes also referred to as Hollyroad, is located in Central to Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. Deeply embodying the blend of Chinese and Western cultures unique to Hong Kong, Hollywood Road is the first street built after the establishment of the city. The area mainly attracts visitors looking to purchase Chinese antiques, many of which are valuable cultural relics. The eastern end of Hollywood Road connects to Lan Kwai Fong, and the former Central Police Station (formerly the Hong Kong Police Headquarters) is also located on this street. The Dragon-i bar at the Central Plaza next to the old Central Police Station has attracted several football stars to visit during their trips to Hong Kong. The Central–Mid-Levels escalator system, which connects Central and the Mid-Levels, also runs along Hollywood Road. On the Sheung Wan side near Hollywood Road, Upper Lascar Row and Lok Ku Road are well-known hubs for antiques and nostalgic items. Related knowledge:

The name “Hollywood Road” has no connection to the American film industry’s Hollywood, but instead comes from the holly trees that grew in the area in its early days. Hollywood Road was the first street constructed during the colonial period, with construction beginning as early as 1841 when the British landed on Hong Kong Island. Later, the old Central Police Station on the Central section of Hollywood Road was completed in 1864 and expanded in 1919; it is now listed as a declared monument of Hong Kong. Since the British who once ruled Hong Kong resided in the Mid-Levels area near Hollywood Road, the Soho area south of Central’s Hollywood Road derived its English name “Soho” not only from London’s Soho district but was also initially an abbreviation for “South of Hollywood Road.” Today, Soho is filled with numerous restaurants and bars featuring foreign characteristics.

Transportation

1. Take bus route 26 from outside Pacific Place in Admiralty and get off at Hollywood Road. 2. From Exit D1 of Central MTR Station, turn right onto Theatre Lane, walk along Queen’s Road Central towards Central Plaza, then take the Central–Mid-Levels escalator to Hollywood Road.
