Introduction

At an elevation of 428 meters, The Peak, commonly known as Victoria Peak, is the highest point on Hong Kong Island and the best place to overlook Victoria Harbour. It is the premier attraction when visiting Hong Kong. The views from the peak differ greatly between day and night. Whether you're a romantic at heart or not, be sure to include a visit to The Peak for its nighttime scenery—the best spots being the Sky Terrace 428 at Sky100 and the Lion Pavilion near the Peak Tram terminus. The illuminated cityscape of Hong Kong at night will leave a lasting impression. This is a must-visit destination in any Hong Kong itinerary. At the peak, there's the Peak Tower, uniquely designed in a bowl shape, offering a variety of sightseeing, entertainment, shopping, and dining experiences. From the Sky Terrace on the top floor of Peak Tower, enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the vibrant cityscape below—including the towering skyscrapers of Central, Wan Chai, and Tsim Sha Tsui, as well as the world-renowned Victoria Harbour. You can also gaze at the fresh green hills of the New Territories and the many picturesque islands of Hong Kong. The Sky Terrace offers an even more captivating and expansive view of Hong Kong.

The tram cars can even perform stunts. When descending the mountain and approaching the final steep section before Garden Road Terminus, try standing at a 30-degree angle to the floor of the car—you’ll feel like you’re floating, which is quite fun.

When descending, you can choose to walk. Starting from Lugard Road, walk for about 20 minutes to reach the Lugard Road Lookout, where you’ll be greeted with sweeping views of the city and the harbor. Along the way, information plaques detail the area’s geology, climate, plants, and common insects. Continuing along Lugard Road, you’ll soon reach the junction with Harlech Road and Caroline Hill Road. Here, you have two options: take Harlech Road back to Peak Galleria, then take a bus or tram back to Central; or take Caroline Hill Road, which leads downhill. Soon you’ll reach University Road, where you can transfer to Bus 13 to Central. Alternatively, follow Kennedy Road for about 30 minutes to the Mid-Levels Escalator, then walk back to Central.

On September 27, 2007, the one-of-a-kind "Peak Tram Historical Gallery" officially opened. The Peak Tram Historical Gallery offers visitors a chance to explore the century-long history of Hong Kong and the Peak Tram. It serves as a journey through time, showcasing the birth and development of the Peak Tram. The gallery is divided into 15 themed exhibition zones, the most distinctive of which are the replica power system of the original tram and the first-generation Peak Tram carriage. In addition, over 200 precious artifacts are on display, including uniforms of early Peak Tram staff, ticketing tools, vintage tickets, track surveying equipment, tram-themed toys, movie posters featuring the tram as a backdrop, as well as attire from the Edwardian era, transcontinental love letters and marriage proposals from a British tram engineer to his fiancée—each item offering a fascinating glimpse into the tram’s legacy, all thoughtfully arranged across the various exhibition areas.
