Introduction

Government House is the venue where the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government receives guests, and some important official ceremonies of the HKSAR Government are also held here. Located on Upper Albert Road in Mid-Levels, Central, Hong Kong Island, it was formerly known as Government House during the British colonial period (commonly referred to as the Governor’s House) and has now become the official residence of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong.

In addition to serving as the official residence of the Chief Executive, Government House is also used by the HKSAR Government for formal receptions of heads of state, foreign dignitaries, and important guests. Some significant official ceremonies of the HKSAR Government are also held at Government House, such as the annual Investiture Ceremony and the flag presentation ceremony for Hong Kong athletes competing in the Olympic Games. 1. Take bus routes 3B or 12 outside Jardine House in Central. 2. Take bus routes 23, 23A, 23B, 40, or 40M outside Pacific Place in Admiralty, and alight at Hong Kong Park on Cotton Tree Drive. After getting off, pass by the Hong Kong Squash Centre and St. John's Building, then cross Garden Road to reach the U.S. Consulate General—Government House is right next door.

3. Take Exit K at Central MTR Station, walk past the HSBC Main Building, cross Queen's Road Central, and continue straight along Garden Road, then walk uphill.
