St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Hong Kong

St. Anthony's Church (English: St. Anthony's Church) is a Catholic church located on Pok Fu Lam Road, Pok Fu Lam, Hong Kong. It is managed by the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong and was established on June 13, 1953, when it was consecrated by Bishop Bianchi.

The main gate and shutter of the church facing the road are currently not in use. Parishioners usually enter through the entrance located within St. Anthony's School. At the church entrance stands a statue of Saint John Bosco (1813–1888), the founder of the Salesians, who is affectionately resting his left hand on the shoulder of Saint Dominic Savio (1842–1857). Both are saints particularly venerated by the Salesians. In an open-air corner outside the church, there is a grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, planted with flowers and greenery, offering a serene spot to reconnect with nature amidst the bustling urban area.

Upon entering the church, you’ll notice the interior has no supporting pillars, creating a spacious, almost sky-like feel. The flat ceiling, adorned with crisscrossing lines, gives the impression of being inside a large canopy tent. At the very front of the church is the main altar, behind which is a rounded arch flanked by gilded statues of angels playing trumpets.

On either side of the arch outside the sanctuary, the left features a statue of Our Lady, Help of Christians, and the right, a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. At the center of the rounded arch above the altar is a bas-relief emblem inscribed in Latin with "Fide et Caritate" (Faith and Charity). Before the liturgical reforms of the 1960s, the main altar displayed a statue of St. Anthony. That statue is now placed on the side altar to the right of the church. On this side altar, there is a specially designed reliquary that resembles a small circular mirror on a pedestal. At its center is a palm-sized circular box, which holds the bone relics of St. Anthony on Tuesdays and the skin relics of the saint on other days. St. Anthony’s relics are deeply revered by the faithful, and many visit specifically to ask for his intercession in finding lost items or people. Within the Church, St. Anthony is known as the “Patron Saint of Lost Items.”
