The Barkol Kazakh Ethnic Culture Park is situated one kilometer northwest of Barkol County town, with very convenient transportation. Constructed in May 2004, it spans 125 acres of first-class national grassland, featuring a beautiful environment and picturesque scenery. There are 13 traditional Kazakh yurts on-site, including the world’s largest handwoven yurt, renowned both within and beyond Xinjiang. This massive yurt has an inner diameter of

meters high, and arch poles stretching 6 meters long. It can accommodate up to 120 tourists for dining at once. The yurt is filled with a wide array of Kazakh handicrafts, decorations, and clothing, offering visitors opportunities for dining, entertainment, and photography. Surrounding the large yurt are 12 slightly smaller handwoven Kazakh yurts, each unique and capable of independently hosting guests while meeting various needs. The park can host up to 480 people at a time. With a total investment of 2.05 million yuan, the park features roads, streetlights, a song and dance performance hall (currently under construction), a horse riding field, parking lots, wooden craft fences, lawn lights, eco-friendly toilets, garbage pits, and Kazakh recreational facilities (such as seesaws and swings). The song and dance performance hall covers an area of 256 square meters and can host 100 guests at a time. The horse riding field spans 10,000 square meters and is equipped with over 20 quality horses, six goats for viewing, and two camels.

While focusing on infrastructure development, the park also emphasizes creating a favorable soft environment. It offers visitors a range of distinctive Kazakh foods such as fried meat, horse sausage, smoked horse meat, boiled lamb, bauyrsaq (Kazakh pastries), various nuts, cheese, milk tea, kumis (fermented mare’s milk), camel milk, donkey milk, and yogurt. Depending on visitor preferences, entertainment activities such as Akyn performances (traditional epic singing), Kazakh song and dance shows, horse racing, goat grabbing, girl-chasing, wrestling, and joining in Kazakh folk dances are available.

The entire park is divided into three zones: the living area, where guests can rest and dine; the sightseeing area, where visitors can explore and learn about Kazakh customs and lifestyles; and the entertainment area, designed for leisure and fun. Not only does the park feature a beautiful environment, but it also places strong emphasis on service quality. To date, the park employs 72 staff members, including 15 management personnel and 57 service staff. In 2006, through the assistance of the county tourism bureau and labor department, all staff received comprehensive tourism service training via workshops and practical sessions, with 8 obtaining professional qualification certificates. This has significantly enhanced the park’s tourism service standards. So far, the ethnic culture park has hosted a cumulative total of 26,000 visitors, demonstrating a high level of tourism reception capability and great potential for sustainable development.
