Taochagan Gol Lake is a lake located in the upper reaches of the Daqing River, situated on the southern slope of the eastern section of the Altai Mountains within the forest-steppe zone north of the county town. A 110-kilometer pastoral road leads to the area. Geographic coordinates: 90°30′E, 46°45′N; elevation: 2,396 meters. It is about 6 kilometers long, with a maximum width of 1 kilometer, a water surface area of approximately 6 square kilometers, a maximum depth of 25 meters, and the water is fresh. The lake is frozen from October to June of the following year, making it a typical glacial erosion and moraine high mountain lake. Surrounded by mountains, the area features layered peaks with snow-capped summits glistening under the sunlight. The lake water is crystal clear like a mirror, and when combined with towering spruce trees, the blue waters, white clouds, and gentle streams, it forms a stunning landscape painting full of poetic charm. Visitors often feel as if they are “walking through a painting.” Especially under the hazy glow of moonlight, the lake takes on an even more mysterious and serene aura.

The lake is home to cold-water fish and waterfowl, while the surrounding forests host a variety of rare cold-climate animals and birds, including brown bears, red deer, wolves, foxes, wild goats, marmots, snow leopards, wild boars, snow cocks, and golden eagles. It serves as an ideal destination for fishing, sightseeing, leisure activities, mountain skiing, summer retreats, and convalescence.

Approximately 2 kilometers from Taochagan Gol Lake lies a smaller lake with calm, clear waters and abundant fish. In summer, the lake connects with the surrounding mountain streams, and ducks and swans float and play on the surface, making it a habitat for water birds. The lakeside is covered with lush green grass, shaded by pine and fir trees, with flowers and plants reflected in the water, creating a delightful interplay of light and color. Along the way to Taochagan Gol Lake, the river valley features layers of birch trees, tall pines and poplars, graceful willows, dense vegetation, blooming wildflowers, and a misty atmosphere. Scattered yurts dot the landscape, and at dusk, smoke rises from chimneys while herds of cattle and sheep graze. Shepherd boys chase and play, creating a serene and harmonious pastoral scene. The high mountain forest area presents diverse scenery from top to bottom, with a mixed coniferous and broadleaf forest that forms a beautiful, multi-layered woodland environment. During the rainy season, numerous waterfalls emerge, creating magical and spectacular views. It is a perfect spot for leisure, summer retreats, and experiencing ethnic culture.
