Balgendi Ancient Fort

Balgendi Ancient Fort is located on the south side of the border defense highway, 140 kilometers west of the county seat. Built in the mid-19th century, it was constructed by the Kyrgyz resistance forces of Akqi County to fight against the invasion of Agubai. The fort is large in scale and solid in structure, with gun rooms at both ends and a shelter that also serves as a command post in the middle. The fort is built against the Northern

Mountain, with flat plains to its southeast, southwest, and west. This location is a junction leading to three mountain passes—Qieqia’er, Keji’erte, and Balgendi—making it a strategic military facility capable of defending three passes from a single stronghold.
