Hetian Carpet Factory is situated on the east bank of the Yulongkashi River in Hetian City, midway between the old and new bridges (No. 22, Ahe Desert Highway). In December 2007, it was recognized as a National Industrial Tourism Demonstration Site.

Founded on April 15, 1950, Hetian Carpet Factory is the most prominent specialized carpet producer in Xinjiang. Its products were exhibited at the 1983 National Export Commodities Fair in Beijing, where they received widespread acclaim and praise, and have been exported to over 20 countries and regions across North America, Europe, and Asia. At the 1990 China Tourism Shopping Festival in Guangzhou, the factory’s vegetable-dyed carpets, wool warp and weft handwoven carpets, and naturally dyed handwoven carpets won the Tianma Excellence Award and Tianma Silver Award, presented by the National Tourism Administration, the Ministry of Light Industry, and the Ministry of Commerce. In 2003, the company’s Heyu-brand Hetian carpet series was awarded the title of “China Green Building Materials Premium Brand” by the China Building Decoration and Renovation Materials Association. In 2006, the company’s Heyu-brand pure wool handwoven carpet series was recognized as a Xinjiang Famous Brand Product by the Xinjiang Famous Brand Strategy Promotion Committee. Large handwoven wool tapestries such as “Tianshan Joy,” presented by the People’s Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government upon Hong Kong’s return to the motherland in 1997, and “Beautiful Kanas,” given to the Macao Special Administrative Region Government upon Macao’s return in 1999, the art tapestry in the Xinjiang Hall of the Great Hall of the People, and the large handwoven art tapestry gifted by the Hetian Prefecture Government and Prefectural Administrative Office to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps—all are premium handwoven wool carpet masterpieces produced by this factory.

The main attractions of the site include: 1) An exhibition showcasing the exquisite full production process of carpet-making, including live demonstrations of wool washing, spinning, dyeing, weaving, washing, leveling, and ironing. 2) A finished product showroom for carpets and artistic wall hangings, where visitors can appreciate the beauty and rich cultural heritage of handwoven wool carpets. 3) The unique scenic charm of a garden-style factory.
