The Yellow River Altar Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction, integrating cultural sightseeing, eco-agriculture experience tours, natural exploration along the ten-mile Yellow River Gorge, and ecological leisure vacation entertainment. It has won titles such as the Northwest China Quality Popular Tourism Destination Award, Ningxia Patriotic Education Base, and one of Ningxia’s Top Ten Most Beautiful Scenic Areas. Visitors can tour the Yellow River Altar, take a boat cruise along the ten-mile Yellow River Gorge, and experience leisure activities including aerospace fruit and vegetable picking, fishing and barbecuing at the inner lake, family farms, and the Golden Sand Bay International Wine Estate. The scenic area also offers catering, accommodation, conference services, and team-building programs.

I. Yellow River Altar

The Yellow River enriches all of Ningxia, and Yellow River culture converges here. The Yellow River Altar is a cultural-themed structure built to pay tribute to the Mother River. It combines the essence of 5,000 years of Chinese culture with exquisite architectural art. The altar consists of three sections: the Gratitude Zone, the Ritual Grace Zone, and the Thanksgiving Zone, featuring 108 bronze artifacts and 96 white marble sculptures. It encapsulates the quintessence of 5,000 years of Chinese civilization and showcases the brilliance of Chinese culture throughout the ages. Visiting the Yellow River Altar is like reading a profound and magnificent encyclopedia of Yellow River culture.

II. Boat Cruise on the Yellow River Grand Canyon

The Qingtongxia Yellow River Grand Canyon is the last gorge on the upper reaches of the Yellow River, also known as the “Ten-Mile Long Gorge.” Visitors can take a boat from the Yellow River Altar Scenic Area’s cruise dock and head west into the 10-kilometer-long canyon. Along the way, they will successively pass landmarks such as the Qingtongxia Stone Carvings, the Yu the Great Culture Park, the ancient Qin Canal water inlet, the Qingtongxia Water Control Hub, the 108 Pagodas, the Guanyin Platform, the Shrimp Wall, the Heavenly Scripture Pavilion, and the Sleeping Buddha Mountain. The Mother River flows through this vast and passionate land—sometimes gently meandering across the plains, sometimes surging and leaping with vigor. Within just a short distance, the river alternates between powerful and serene, presenting a rich variety of scenes.

III. Inner Lake Entertainment

The scenic area features an artificial lake covering over 1,100 acres, equipped with an inner lake boat dock and various water recreation facilities such as bamboo rafts, pedal boats, water bicycles, and twin-wheel water vehicles, offering visitors leisure and entertainment options.

In 2012, the scenic area released fish fry worth over 800,000 yuan, which have never been fed any feed or fished since then. The lake now boasts a large population of carp, grass carp, crucian carp, silver carp, and black carp, with some individuals growing up to 20–30 pounds—perfect for fishing enthusiasts to enjoy a fulfilling angling experience.

IV. Golden Sand Bay International Wine Estate

Located within the Yellow River Altar Scenic Area, the winery lies in the core zone of the Helan Mountain East Foothills wine origin and is a tourist winery that integrates sightseeing, grape picking, brewing experiences, and wine tasting. It receives over 150,000 visitors annually. Guests can sample fine wines and learn about the cultural and historical background of winemaking.

The estate cultivates premium grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Beihong, Beimei, and Chardonnay. The grapes benefit from abundant sunlight, resulting in high-quality wines. These have participated in international and domestic wine competitions including the UK’s Decanter World Wine Awards, Berlin Wine Trophy in Germany, the Belt and Road International Wine Quality Challenge, Italy’s Wine Quality Competition, France’s Bordeaux Wine Quality Competition, Asia Wine Quality Competition, and China’s Quality Wine Challenge, winning over 50 awards including gold, silver, and excellence awards.

V. Family Farm

The Yellow River Altar Scenic Area features a family farm where visitors can experience the joy of farming activities such as cultivating, planting, harvesting, and consuming their own produce by leasing a plot of land. The scenic area provides seeds, seedlings, farming tools, and fertilizers. Visitors can choose to grow aerospace-grown fruits and vegetables, chestnut sweet potatoes, sweet corn, strawberries, okra, and more. The area also offers farm management and custodial services for guests.
