Introduction: Gaodun Lake gets its name from the several towering ancient Great Wall beacon towers standing nearby. The tourist area is located on the southern edge of the Tengger Desert, 8 kilometers from the city center, and integrates sightseeing, leisure, vacation, and entertainment. Covering an area of over 1,000 acres, the site includes a 400-acre lake, more than 200 acres of desert wetlands, and features 10 large and medium-sized luxury Mongolian yurts, over 10 types of boats, as well as more than ten tourism attractions such as a water park, wildlife and plant viewing in the desert, desert surfing, and a hunting ground.

The ancient Great Wall, which has slumbered for thousands of years, stretches like a yellow ribbon between the Zhongwei oasis and the vast Tengger Desert. Nestled in the embrace of this sleeping giant, the secluded Gaodun Lake offers visitors a serene and tranquil experience in nature. Here, green grass, blue skies, golden sands, azure waters, and white seagulls blend harmoniously to create a dreamlike "fairyland on the frontier." Over 30 species of birds, including wild ducks and swans, can be found at Gaodun Lake. To the north, the lake borders the great desert, while to the east, west, and south lie grid-like fishponds.
