As the first city on the Yellow River to achieve gravity-fed irrigation, Zhongwei occupies a unique geographical position that should carry forward and interpret the legacy of great river civilizations. This planning initiative leverages the concept of the “Dance of the Great River” to highlight the distinctive essence of the Yellow River civilization—one of the cradles of world civilization. By fusing, assimilating, and preserving the achievements of both riverine and urban civilizations, it forms a unique cluster of landscapes in Zhongwei: the “Charm of the Desert, Dance of the Great River, Soul of the Silk Road, Roots of the Tangut People, Beauty of Ecology, and Splendor of the City.”

The “Dance of the Great River” Theme Cultural Park is located in the southern part of Zhongwei’s urban new district. The planned area extends north to Binhe Avenue, south to the northern bank of the Yellow River, east to Morou Road in Rouyuan Town, Shapotou District, and west to the dam of the Shapotou Water Control Project. It stretches 22.5 kilometers along the northern bank of the Yellow River, covering a total planned area of approximately 6 square kilometers.
