Gazar Monastery

Gazar Monastery is a cultural tourism attraction.

Introduction: Its full name is Gazar Banjueleng, which translates to "Land of Auspicious Prosperity" in Chinese. It is located in Danglong Village, Chenwen Valley, Chengduo County, about 5 kilometers east of the county town. Legend has it that during its peak in the Yuan Dynasty, the monastery housed 23 temples, 5 halls, 6 residential palaces, and over 500 monk quarters, with more than ten thousand monks. Under the leadership of Dampa Rinpoche, teachings and practices flourished, making it a prominent and highly influential center of flourishing Buddhist activity.

In 1987, the 13th Loré Sangba Sengge oversaw the reconstruction of the scripture hall, fasting hall, Dharmapala hall, monastic assembly hall, as well as the Tibetan medical clinic, printing room, and other structures. The halls enshrine a Universal Buddha statue, the Vajra Being statue, the Twelve-faced Avalokiteshvara among five stone gter ma statues, the conch shell bestowed by Phagpa, the nine-spiked damaru meteoric iron ritual instrument, Dampa Rinpoche’s prayer beads and seal, invaluable alloy Buddha statues, as well as gold leaf thangkas, among others. The surrounding area features statues of Tangtong Gyalpo, Buddha images, stupas, and prayer wheels. In 1998, it was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit of Qinghai Province.
