The Tang-Tibet Ancient Road

The Tang-Tibet Ancient Road was a major transportation route between the Tang Dynasty and the Tibetan Empire. It is one of the most renowned roads in ancient Chinese history and served as the essential passage from the Central Plains to Qinghai, Tibet, and even to Nepal and India since the Tang Dynasty. The famous Princess Wencheng’s journey to marry King Songtsen Gampo of Tibet took place along this road. Its formation and use have a history of over 1,300 years.

Yushu has long been a key transport hub connecting Tibet, Sichuan, and Xining, and is an essential section of the Tang-Tibet Ancient Road. The area features a wealth of historical sites and cultural experiences along the ancient road and trade routes, offering diverse and breathtaking sights. Traveling this road allows you to enjoy the magnificent plateau scenery and the mystical source of major rivers, with the millennia-old rock carvings in Beigou being especially captivating.
