Guide Sandy Island is located in the northeastern part of Qinghai Lake, covering an area of 18.00 square kilometers. It is the largest island in the lake, approximately 13 kilometers long and up to 2.8 kilometers wide, standing 58 meters above the lake surface. Introduction Originally a small island in the lake, Sandy Island was formed by sand ridges protruding from the water and accumulating windblown sand, resembling a crescent-shaped sand dune floating on the water. Together with the undulating sand hills along the eastern shore of the lake, it forms the unique desert landscape of the Qinghai Lake area, blending seamlessly with the blue sky, clear waters, and yellow sands — making it an excellent spot for swimming.

Nowadays, Sandy Island continues to expand, and its northeastern end has already connected with the lakeshore, enclosing a 33-square-kilometer lagoon known as Sandy Island Lake.
