Zhanye Mountain features a danxia landform, composed of red sandstone and conglomerate. In Tibetan, it is called "Zongmu Mayum," meaning "the beautiful ruddy queen." The development site of the Zhanye Mountain Scenic Area is located in Baba Town, Qilian County, adjacent to the Baba River, and faces the sacred mountain of the Tibetan region, Ami Dongshan (Ox Heart Mountain), across the river. Standing atop Zhanye Mountain, the view is extremely open, with no obstructions in any direction. Across the mountain lies Ox Heart Mountain, where one can witness four seasons' scenery in a single glance. To the left and right are the Ladong Gorge and Baiyangou Scenic Areas, while the back is lined with the undulating Qilian Mountains. At the foot of the mountain, the surging Baba River winds around the county town like a white hada... Every sight is picturesque, like a fairyland, bringing joy to the heart and soul. Legend has it that Zhanye Mountain and Ami Dongshan (Ox Heart Mountain), the sacred guardian mountain of Qilian, are a devoted couple, silently watching over each other across the Baba River, jointly protecting the mountains and waters of Qilian.

The best travel season for Zhanye Mountain in Qilian is from June to October.
