The Marvel of Wushan Pool is located on the southeastern side of the main peak of Dali Mountain. Renowned far and wide for its unique features — high elevation, spectacular scenery, perilous access, mystical aura, and breathtaking beauty — Wushan Pool is a sight to behold. The best time to visit is during the fifth to sixth lunar months in summer. From the southern slope of the Dali Pass on the Linping Highway, hikers can ascend lush, rolling hills and walk about 5 kilometers to reach Longwo. From there, continue climbing westward through rugged terrain where towering, unique peaks rise dramatically from the earth, piercing the clouds and dwarfing the surrounding mountains. The massive granite boulders found here are rarely seen elsewhere. Nestled among the jagged rocks, Wushan Pool shines like a dazzling drop of water, crystal clear. At times, ripples dance across its surface, creating shimmering waves; at others, bubbles rise, catching the light in a mesmerizing display. The lofty ridges embracing the mountain pool are rugged, with rocky peaks exposed in countless striking forms. Further climbing to the main peak offers sweeping views of the miraculous Stone Pile, the landscapes of Xunhua, the grasslands of Gannan, and the scenery of Linxia. Due to its high-altitude location, steep and treacherous paths, and the risk of altitude sickness, few visitors make the journey. Before liberation, during prolonged droughts, locals would climb to Wushan Pool to pray for rain. If they managed to collect water from the pool, it was seen as a sign that their prayers were answered. Legend has it that when Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang, burned the Celebration Tower, the martyred generals caused a ruckus in the Underworld, demanding to return to the mortal realm. With their bones having turned to dust, the King of Hell instead appointed them as local deities — Chang Yuchun became the “King of Wushan and Dragon King of the River Pool.” Owing to his unparalleled heroic deeds, Wushan Pool has become a symbol of reverence for this legendary hero.
