Xiaxiaoyan Mountain Temple is located in Xiaxiaoyan Village, Shahe Town, Fanshi County. It faces south and measures 24.3 meters from east to west and 22.1 meters from north to south, covering an area of 528 square meters. According to inscriptions on the cloud plate of the main hall and a stone stele recording its Qing Dynasty renovation, the temple was originally built in the second year of the Jiajing reign during the Ming Dynasty (1523) and renovated in the eleventh year of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1872). The existing structures, with the exception of the western side hall which dates to the Qing Dynasty, were all built during the Ming Dynasty. The temple features a single-courtyard layout with a passageway hall and the main hall aligned along the central axis, and side halls on the east and west, plus a side chamber on the west. The main hall stands on a stone platform 0.8 meters high, with a width of three bays and a depth of four rafters, featuring a five-beam roof frame without a porch and a single-eave hanging gable roof. The interior preserves 24 square meters of Ming Dynasty figure murals on the side and rear walls, while the cloud plate is inscribed with the year of construction, 1523. A Qing Dynasty stone stele from the eleventh year of the Tongzhi reign (1872), documenting the renovation, is embedded in the eastern side hall’s gable wall.
