The Former Site of the Geological Building of Peking University is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Former Site of the Geological Building of Peking University

Located on Shatan North Street in Dongcheng District, it is a three-story Western-style building built in 1934 and designed by Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin. Its floor plan and façade are both asymmetrical, and the form of the building changes according to functional needs. A stone embedded in the southwest corner of the building today is inscribed with the text “May 15, 1934, the 23rd Year of the Republic of China – Foundation Stone Laid by Jiang Menglin, President of Peking University.” The site is currently used by the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1992, it was designated as a protected unit with defined construction control zones. The protected area extends east to Shatan North Street, and south, west, and north to the walls of the current usage area of the Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
