Chongming Temple in Xinzhou

Chongming Temple is a cultural heritage site protected at the district level in Xinfu District, Xinzhou.

Chongming Temple is located in Wencun Village, Hesuo Township, Xinfu District. It faces south with its back to the north, covering an area of 107.5 meters from east to west and 125 meters from north to south. According to inscriptions on tablets and the ridge beam of the main hall, it was first built in the early Tang Dynasty, rebuilt in the 16th year of the Kangxi reign (1677) and the 2nd year of the Jiaqing reign (1797) during the Qing Dynasty, and renovated in the 24th year of the Daoguang reign (1844). The existing main hall and theater stage are structures dating back to the Qing Dynasty. The Guan Yu Hall was newly built in 1990. The main hall is five bays wide and five rafters deep, with a front porch and a hanging hip roof. The temple houses 16 stone tablets from the Ming and Qing dynasties and three stone stupas. On April 10, 1985, the former People's Government of Xinzhou City (a county-level city) declared it a municipal-level cultural heritage site.
