Pingyang Lake is located in the canyon section of the Mian River to the north of Nvziguang Village, shaped like a gourd. Towering cliffs rise on both sides, and the lake’s surface reflects a muted flow of water, earning it the title “The Number One Man-Made Lake in Shanxi.” It is said that this was the area once guarded by Princess Pingyang, who devoted her life to this place — a truly moving and heroic tale.

Upon entering Pingyang Lake, the first sight is a large lotus pond. It is currently the season when the lotuses are in bloom, with clusters of pink lotus flowers spread out across the pond’s surface. When the wind blows, they sway gently, reminiscent of the lotuses described in Zhu Ziqing’s “Moonlight Over the Lotus Pond” — indescribably enchanting. Though it’s not nighttime, the scene still holds a unique charm.

Walking along the winding stone path over the lotus pond, you’ll come face to face with a white marble statue of Princess Pingyang, her sword at her side as she once commanded the battlefield. Looking up at her, her gaze reveals a subtle sharpness that makes you unable to look at her lightly. With her sword half-drawn, she appears even more majestic and heroic, embodying the grandeur of the land.

Passing by the statue of Princess Pingyang, Pingyang Lake finally comes into full view. Though not a particularly large lake, it exudes a sense of tranquility. Speedboats zip across the surface, splashing up waves. Along the lakeshore, many people are fishing, mostly elderly, yet all seem to be enjoying themselves in peaceful contentment.
