Chongzipo Ancient Mining Site

Chongzipo Ancient Mining Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

Located over 50 kilometers south of Gejiu City, it gets its name from being surrounded by mountains on all sides with only one valley. It is an ancient copper mining and smelting site from the Qing Dynasty. The village is surrounded by piles of copper smelting slag mixed with small amounts of malachite. In May 1993, while clearing the slag, a “Qianlong Tongbao” coin was unearthed, along with the discovery of a Qing Dynasty tomb. About 8 kilometers north of the site, in Longshujiao Village, tin mining was carried out before the Ming Dynasty, making it part of the larger mining area as a whole.

Chongzipo is a small slope between Douyan Village and Xiaoqingkou, situated 45 kilometers south of downtown Gejiu. In May 1993, within an ancient smelting site covering nearly 10,000 square meters, two Han Dynasty furnaces and one charcoal kiln were excavated and cleared, yielding tin ingots, silver ornaments, Han Dynasty wuzhu coins, primitive glazed pottery jars, and large amounts of copper and tin slag. It is an ancient mining and smelting site dating back to the Eastern Han Dynasty.
