Daying Street is nothing short of a miracle. In building its tourism culture, the people of Daying Street will consistently play the political card, raise high the banner of the “First Village in Yunnan,” and establish the influence, reputation, and appeal of Daying Street as a tourist destination.

In 2003, the Daying Street Neighborhood Committee achieved a total rural economic income of 1.84 billion yuan, with profits and taxes totaling 203 million yuan, and an average per capita income of 8,189 yuan. In terms of tourism development, over the past nine years since 1995, they have invested a total of 420 million yuan to build five tourist attractions—Huixi Park, Huilong Ecological Garden, Yingyue Pool, Yuquan Temple, and Yuquan Lake—as well as supporting facilities such as hotels and transportation, forming a relatively complete tourism industry system. The number of tourists and tourism revenue have increased year by year, creating 2,300 job opportunities. Today, Daying Street holds even higher expectations for tourism development, aiming to establish itself as a well-known leisure and tourism resort destination in the province and across the country, integrating leisure, vacation, health, entertainment, conferences, religion, and gourmet food.

It can be said that the current scale of tourism development in Daying Street is the result of conceptual innovation, as well as institutional and systemic innovation. As collective enterprises, the Filter Rod Factory and the Tip Paper Factory have played leading roles in Daying Street’s tourism. From the moment it was built, Huilong Ecological Garden positioned its operations around leisure vacations and conference entertainment, using a flexible business model to continuously develop new tourism hotspots, attracting visitors from Kunming and other areas. Yingyue Pool Hot Springs leveraged its unique geothermal resources to be the first in Yuxi to introduce the concept of “Spa” (water therapy), complemented by a fresh and beautiful environment design and standardized management, quickly establishing a certain level of recognition.

Facing new development opportunities, the people of Daying Street have clearly put forward the “1-2-3-4” strategy for tourism development: focusing on building one premium tourism route, rationally developing two major tourism resources—underground hot springs and local gourmet culture, actively developing and enhancing three key tourism products—Spa, eco-tourism, and culinary experiences, and comprehensively improving four major benefits—tourism, culture, economy, and ecology. In developing the premium tourism route, they will make full use of the cultural and ecological resources of the “First Village in Yunnan” to achieve optimal integration of the six essential elements of tourism: food, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, entertainment, and shopping. They plan to renovate and upgrade Huixi Park, expand the operational scale of Yingyue Pool, connect Yuquan Lake with Huilong Ecological Garden, reopen Huixi Entertainment City, and build the “Number One Gourmet City in Central Yunnan.” Especially in the Yuquan Lake area, they will make full use of the existing environment to enable comprehensive development, with key projects including a science and technology museum, a corridor showcasing notable historical figures of Yunnan, a street dedicated to food culture, and lakeside leisure and entertainment developments. Additionally, plans are underway for the development of the Zhou River within Daying Street and the construction of ecological orchards.
