Yuxi Museum

Yuxi Museum showcases the rich history and culture of Yuxi, representing the essence of the region’s cultural heritage. It features vivid exhibitions on paleontology, exquisite displays in the Bronze Museum Hall, the Nie Er Cultural Exhibition Hall, the Historical Evolution of Yuxi Exhibition Hall, and more, documenting both the past and present of Yuxi.

Transportation:

① From the train station: Take Bus 9 to the District Power Center Service Station, then walk about 400 meters to the intersection of Hongta Avenue.

② From the bus station: Take Bus 4 to the Petroleum Company Station, then walk back about 200 meters.

The museum is located on a major city road, and is also easily accessible by taxi or private car, with a starting fare of 6 yuan.

Highlights:

① Ceramics Exhibition Hall: Showcases fine examples of Yunnan blue-and-white porcelain, represented by the Yuxi Kiln—one of the key kilns producing such ware during China’s Yuan and Ming dynasties. Highlights include the Tiger-Button Figurine-Decorated Jar, Blue-and-White Peony-Patterned Jar, and Fish-Algae-Patterned Jade-Pitcher Spring Vase. This is arguably the most comprehensive exhibition hall in the museum.

② Marine Life Exhibition Hall: Features models and fossils of ancient marine species, including the famously known trilobites, Yunnan worms, and Fuxianhu worms.

③ Dinosaur Fossil Exhibition Hall: Displays various dinosaur fossils from the Jurassic period, most originating from the Maotianshan fossil group in Chengjiang.

④ Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall: Presents traditional costumes and historical culture of the various ethnic groups across Yuxi’s eight counties and two districts, as well as national, provincial, and municipal-level intangible cultural heritage protection projects.
