Jinchi Ancient Town

Jinchi Ancient Town is located about 10 kilometers northeast of Baoshan City. It is said to be the hometown of Lü Kai, the governor of Yongchang Commandery and a descendant of Lü Buwei, the Qin Dynasty chancellor. The town lies at the strategic throat area where the ancient Bonan Road enters Baoshan after crossing the Lancang River.

The town covers an area of 1 square kilometer, with two main roads—one running north-south and the other east-west—intersecting in a Y-shape at the center. Other lanes extend outward from these main roads, forming a network that spans the entire settlement. The streets are lined with traditional-style residences. Underground cultural relics in the area include Neolithic sites and Eastern Han Dynasty ruins, while above ground there are historic sites such as the Stone Tablet of Lü Kai’s Hometown, Jinchi Hot Springs, Lü Gong Ancestral Hall, Jinchi Temple, Woniu Temple, and the Ancient Jinchi Opera Stage. Currently serving as the seat of Jinchi Township, the town has around 1,400 households and a population of over 5,800, making it a renowned historical and cultural ancient town in western Yunnan.
