Mount Taiyue

Mount Taiyue is a national-level forest park.

Mount Taiyue National Forest Park is located at the junction of the three regions of Changzhi, Linfen, and Lüliang in Shanxi Province, situated in the heartland of the province and southwest of Taiyuan City. It was approved for establishment by the Ministry of Forestry in November 1992, covering an area of 900,000 mu.

The park has a mild climate, featuring a temperate continental climate. The area lies in the middle section of the Taihang Mountains, and numerous streams originate here, flowing into the Fen River and Qin River. The park boasts good vegetation and dense forests, with a forest coverage rate of 48.5%, ranking among the top in Shanxi Province. The forest structure is dominated by natural secondary forests, accounting for 89%, with the rest being planted forests. The main tree species is Pinus tabuliformis, making it a concentrated distribution area for this species in Shanxi Province, often referred to as the “Home of Pinus tabuliformis.” Lingkong Mountain is home to the country’s largest Pinus tabuliformis known as the “Nine-Pole Flag,” acclaimed as the King of Pinus tabuliformis. In addition to Pinus tabuliformis, other tree species in the park include Larix principis-rupprechtii, Pinus bungeana, Juniperus rigida, poplar, birch, Quercus liaotungensis, and Acer mono. The area is also rich in medicinal plants.
