Cui Feng Park

Cui Feng Park is located on Cui Feng Mountain in the southeastern part of Lingshi County, with its highest point at an elevation of 946 meters and a total area of 100 hectares, making it the largest man-made mountaintop park in North China. Currently, the main section of the park, covering 33 hectares, has been fully completed, and the follow-up construction and surrounding greening projects have also been largely finished.

The park was formerly the area under the jurisdiction of two village committees in Cui Feng Town, featuring barren hills, rugged ravines, exposed soil and rocks, and numerous graves, suffering from severe soil erosion that endangered local residents. In October 1995, the county Party committee and government initiated the construction of Cui Feng Park to improve the living environment of urban residents. By August 2001, the park was fully completed, marked by the inauguration of the cultural square at the mountaintop. The total investment in the park’s construction exceeded 50 million yuan, involving over 300,000 cubic meters of earthwork, the construction of more than 150 bridges, culverts, channels, and dams totaling 1,500 meters, the creation of over 60 artificial flat areas, the planting of 24,000 square meters of grass and flowers, and the cultivation of nearly 150,000 trees, shrubs, and vines. Additionally, 15 structures including pavilions, terraces, towers, gazebos, corridors, and trellises were built. The park also features a three-star hotel, two squares, and over ten sports and recreational facilities.

The park is thoughtfully planned and well-coordinated, divided into four major zones: the leisure and entertainment zone, the children’s play zone, the sports activity zone, and the cultural tourism zone.

The 20,000-square-meter cultural square consists of an arts and culture wall, a dripping water square, a concealed fountain square, totem poles, a teahouse, purple clay teapots, and other decorative elements. The pathways are paved with granite, pebbles, and cement bricks, and are equipped with garden lights, lawn lights, and floodlights. Visitors here will experience a sudden sense of openness and tranquil enjoyment, making it an ideal spot for gatherings and activities, as well as a perfect place for tourists to admire the beautiful views of Cui Feng and overlook the distinctive mountain city.

The construction of Cui Feng Park embodies the “Four Unities”:

First, the unity of humans and nature. Lingshi County nestles against Cui Feng Mountain and the Fen River, with the city within the mountains and the mountains within the city; the city follows the river’s course, and the river winds around the city. The completion of the park integrates the “mountain, water, and city,” bringing people back to nature, diluting urban noise, and achieving harmony between humans and nature.

Second, the unity of landscape design and natural terrain. The project construction leverages the mountainous landscape, creating scenery in harmony with the natural contours, making full use of the terrain’s characteristics to excavate the essence of the landscape, resulting in a well-arranged and highly enjoyable array of scenic spots.

Third, the unity of greening projects and infrastructure development. Relying on ecological and international cooperation projects, the park emphasizes greening around its perimeter, with an ecological economic park established on the mountain behind the park, cultivating a total of 950 acres of ecological and economic forests, achieving integration between greening projects and infrastructure development.

Fourth, the unity of ecological benefits and social benefits. During the park’s construction, comprehensive management through engineering and biological measures eradicated soil erosion on Cui Feng Mountain, achieving the expected goals of urban soil and water conservation, earning it the title of a “model project for urban soil and water conservation.”

After six years of construction, the former barren hills have been transformed into the largest mountaintop park in North China. The park integrates urban soil and water conservation, garden artistry, tourism, sightseeing, leisure, and entertainment, achieving a perfect combination of ecological, social, and economic benefits.
