Jingsheng Confucius Temple is a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit, located within the Wang Family Courtyard Scenic Area. Originally built in the second year of the Zhiyuan era (1336 AD) during the reign of Emperor Huizong of the Yuan Dynasty, it has a history of nearly 700 years. It is a rural Confucius Temple with distinctive features that can rival those of prefectural and county-level temples.

Despite its small size, covering only 3,500 square meters, the temple complex includes a series of structures such as the Lingxing Gate, Pan Pond, Zhuangyuan Bridge, Dacheng Gate, Dacheng Hall, and the Zunjing Pavilion. It also features a unique double-sided carved stone relief known as the “No.1 Wall Under Heaven” – the “Carp Leaping Over the Dragon Gate,” which serves as a mid-wall. These elements reflect its significant historical, scientific, and artistic value.

The temple was first built in the second year of the Zhiyuan era (1336 AD) of Emperor Huizong of the Yuan Dynasty. Construction began in the third year of the Zhi (1332 AD), took four years, and was completed in the second year of the Zhiyuan era (1336 AD). It underwent multiple renovations during the Ming and Qing dynasties and the Republican era, and the current structure dates back to the Yuan and Ming periods.

The temple faces south and features a two-courtyard layout. Along the central axis are the Jijie Gate and the Dacheng Hall, while side halls include the Kuixing Tower and auxiliary chambers, covering a total area of 2,237 square meters. The screen wall in front of the temple was built during the Yuan Dynasty. The Dacheng Hall is constructed on a 0.95-meter-high brick foundation, with a width of three bays and a depth of five rafters, featuring a six-rafter front corridor structure. The outer eaves brackets are exquisitely crafted, and the gable walls are adorned with intricate designs.

The architectural style of the Confucius Temple is predominantly Yuan and Ming. The iconic “Carp Leaping Over the Dragon Gate” screen wall at the entrance is a relic from the Yuan Dynasty. The Lingxing Gate is a four-pillar, three-bay stone memorial archway, with five-curved double-angle wooden-style stone brackets on the main and secondary roofs, and pierced-carved horse-riding spandrels that are exceptionally exquisite. Between the Lingxing Gate and the Dacheng Gate lies the Pan Pond and Pan Bridge. The main hall, Dacheng Hall, is a single-eave suspended gable-roof structure, with a width of three bays, a depth of three bays, and a front corridor. The outer eaves brackets are of the three-curved style.

Jingsheng Confucius Temple is listed as part of the third batch of provincial-level protected sites. Together with the Wang Family Courtyard, Wang Family Ancestral Hall, Hou Tu Temple (in Jingsheng Village), and others, it forms an ancient architectural complex that constitutes an important heritage of Jingsheng Ancient Town.

In May 2013, Jingsheng Confucius Temple was designated as part of the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

Confucius (551–479 BC), whose given name was Qiu and courtesy name Zhongni, was a native of Zouyi, Changping (present-day southeastern Qufu, Shandong Province).
