Houma Yiqiao Pujidong Cave

Yiqiao Pujidong Cave is located southwest of Doulonggou Village, Shangma Office, Houma City. It is a building from the Ming and Qing dynasties. According to Volume 75, Clause 5 of the Newly Compiled Annals of Quwo County: “Pujidong is in Yiqiao Village, built during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty.”

Originally, only one brick pillow vault remained at Pujidong, spanning three bays in cross-section. In front of the cave, there was a three-bay corridor house, measuring 12.5 meters in width and 2.7 meters in depth. This no longer exists. Four meters in front of the cave, two cypress trees were planted side by side as subsidiary cultural relics of the temple. Due to their long age, these ancient cypresses hold significant preservation value and are within the scope of cultural heritage protection.

The cave originally housed over thirty scrolls of Water-Land Ritual Paintings dating from the 26th year of the Shunzhi era and the 16th and 40th years of the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty. These are now treasured in the Houma City Museum.

In 1997, Pujidong was borrowed for use by the Houma City Buddhist Association. Simple renovations were made to the original three cave-style buildings, and later, structures such as the Mahavira Hall and mountain gate were newly built around it.
