Caijiachuan Forest Park was approved for establishment in 2004 under Document No. 114 [2004] issued by the People’s Government of Shanxi Province, with a total area of 4,000 hectares.

Caijiachuan Forest Park is located in the northeastern part of Ji County, within the territory of Tunli Town, adjacent to the intersection of National Highways 209 and 309. It is 110 kilometers east of the Tongpu Railway, 70 kilometers west of Yichuan County in Shaanxi Province, and faces the Hukou Waterfall on the Yellow River across the mountain. It serves as a key transit point to the Hukou Waterfall, enjoying convenient transportation and a superior geographical location.

The area has an average annual temperature of 9°C and an average elevation of around 1,200 meters. It features a warm temperate continental climate, with beautiful surroundings, fresh air, a pleasant climate, lush mountains and clear waters, no pollution, and blue skies and clean water all year round.

The park has fertile soil and a suitable climate, with evergreen forests throughout the seasons and abundant, diverse flora and fauna. According to statistics, there are over twenty species of trees in the area, including Liaodong oak, Chinese juniper, birch, white pine, mountain poplar, black locust, as well as economic fruit trees such as pear and apple. There are also over thirty species of shrubs, including yellow thorn rose, honeysuckle, sea buckthorn, and hazelnut. In addition, there are nine-year-old black locust forests, as well as economic fruit trees such as apple, pear, apricot, and peach. The park is home to over thirty species of wild animals, including brown eared pheasant, wild boar, goat, and hare, among which the brown eared pheasant is a first-class nationally protected animal.

The park features undulating mountains, deep forests and valleys, green hills and clear waters, and is rich in natural landscape resources. The area experiences distinct seasons, with different scenery in spring, summer, autumn, and winter, and varying views in sunny, cloudy, rainy, or foggy conditions, as well as at different times of the day. As a result, visitors can witness unique natural phenomena such as “sunrise at Guantou,” “mountains covered in red leaves,” “a world dressed in silver,” “fog-shrouded immortal mountains,” “blossoming flowers,” and “spring blossoms and autumn fruits,” creating a feeling that one has arrived too late. In addition to these remarkable natural wonders, the park also offers a rustic charm with small bridges, flowing streams, and farmsteads. In spring, flowers bloom everywhere, filling the air with fragrance; in summer, the forest provides cool shade; in autumn, fruits hang heavily, brushing against passersby; in winter, the landscape is draped in white, with evergreen pines and cypresses. The area also produces edible treasures such as monkey head mushrooms, mushrooms, tree flowers, and wood ear fungus, while the mountains are home to rare wildlife including leopards, wild boars, brown eared pheasants, deer, and river deer.

In the transition from spring to summer, mountain locust flowers blanket the hills, attracting swarms of bees. With a gentle breeze, the fragrance is intoxicating, while the calls of rare birds can be heard, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the pastoral scenery of the Loess Plateau and the cave dwelling lifestyle infused with local flavor. Additionally, the park features mysterious hanging poems at the bottom of Aozigou, a thousand-year-old cypress at Yanjiashè, a century-old Chinese pearleaf crabapple tree (also known as the wind-watching tree) at He’erling, the Taishan Temple atop Mother-Daughter Peak, and sister trees with several hundred years of history, among other natural and cultural attractions.

Caijiachuan Forest Park is divided into four scenic areas: Yanjiashè, Qiandian, Aozigou, and Xiujia Mountain. It is a leisure and holiday tourism destination primarily focused on experiencing the culture of the Loess Plateau and the rural life of northwestern Shanxi.
