Asu Grassland

Asu Grassland is located in the northeastern part of Dege County, 206 kilometers from Dege County town and 120 kilometers from Manigange, at an altitude of about 4,000 meters. It connects areas such as Zhuxi, Landuo, and Asu, covering a total area of over 85,000 hectares. The entire Asu Grassland features beautiful mountains and clear waters, with flat terrain surrounded by distant mountain ranges, and the renowned Yalong River flows through it.

Asu Grassland is the main area where Ling Gesar, the legendary Tibetan hero king, was born, grew up, and spent his life in battle. It is the birthplace of Ling Gesar. Born in 1038 AD and passing away in 1119 at the age of 81, Gesar came from a poor family in his early years and lived with his mother, making a living through herding. At the age of 16, he won a horse race and was enthroned as king. Endowed with both wisdom and bravery, he devoted his life to eliminating evil, aiding the poor and weak, and uniting over 150 tribes of various sizes. He established his ancient capital, "Sengqudaize Zong," located in Ozi Township in the northwest of Asu Grassland, consolidating and expanding the Ling Kingdom. Throughout Asu Grassland and even all of Dege, traces of King Gesar can be found everywhere, along with many widely told and beloved legends about him. The heroic epic "The Life of King Gesar" originated in this land of Asu Grassland, blessed with remarkable people and spirits, and has been widely sung. "The Life of King Gesar" is the longest epic in the world to date, comprising approximately 700 volumes and over 20 million verses—722 times the length of the Homeric Epics and 97 times that of Indian epics (including the Mahabharata and Ramayana).
