Yalong River Grand Canyon

The Yalong River Grand Canyon is located in Shadui Township, Xinlong County. Historically known as Shimen Root, it was the foremost mountain pass of Xinlong and an essential route for travelers moving north and south through the county. The road here was carved out of steep cliffs, with a width of just 5 meters, featuring numerous continuous sharp turns that make it extremely dangerous. Before the road was built, there was a narrow mountain path above the waist of the mountain, only two feet wide, with a sheer cliff below dropping into a vast canyon where the river roared and churned, inspiring dread and a chilling sense of danger — truly embodying the phrase “one man can hold the pass against ten thousand.”
