The first floor features a stone-brick exterior, while the second and third floors are adorned with bright yellow walls accented by brown trim, plus sloping roofs. Anyone who has visited Qingjing will find this house look familiar, and in fact, the homestay owner Mr. Feng decided to build his own dream home after seeing many beautiful homestays in Qingjing. He said this is a dream everyone has.

The homestay is located near Mr. Feng’s residence, on land he purchased over a decade ago as an investment. Because he liked the area, Mr. Feng didn’t hesitate to replicate the look of Qingjing homestays. The interior is designed to evoke a log cabin feel, built with imported incense cedar, so the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the rich aroma of wood. From the ceiling to the tables, chairs, doors, bed frames, wardrobes, and TV cabinets—all the furniture is made from solid incense cedar. The ceiling retains the natural color of the wood, while the furniture pieces are blackened with a gas torch before being crafted. Paired with the seamless bright yellow walls and brown trim that match the exterior, the warm tones create a relaxing atmosphere. When the setting sun streams in, it adds to the cozy ambiance.

The homestay is divided into two buildings, each with a living room, large dining table, kitchen, and four guest rooms. It’s mainly rented out as a whole, with single rooms available only within the first ten days. Originally, Mr. Feng planned to use one building as his residence, but his elderly family members weren’t used to it, so both buildings are now offered as homestays. To accommodate guests who have different sleeping habits—some who prefer early nights and others who stay up late—Mr. Feng also built a separate annex with an AV room, so people can enjoy themselves without disturbing others. He said he especially loves it when brides from other regions who’ve married into Hsinchu families stay here the night before their wedding, treating it as their “home before the wedding.” The joyful atmosphere is truly heartwarming.

In front of the homestay is a large lawn where children can run around freely or where you can have a barbecue or camp. Hearing the word “camping” might raise some eyebrows. Mr. Feng explains that some parents want their kids to experience camping life, so they bring tents to pitch on the lawn. Kids can sleep in the tents, or if they’re not used to it, there are rooms available—an ideal vacation solution that works for everyone.

Mr. Feng’s main business is growing herbal medicine, and the fields are located near the homestay. Visitors can also get to know what local folk medicinal herbs look like.
