Wing King Pavilion

In 1942, when the iron-chain bridge over the Dadu River on the Leshan–Xichang Highway was completed, this pavilion was built to commemorate Shi Dakai’s defeat by the Dadu River in June 1863 at the cliff-top near the bridge. The hexagonal pavilion houses a stone stele inscribed with “Record of the Wing King Pavilion,” written by Han Mengjun, then Director of Education of Xikang Province. Outside the pavilion, there were originally over 20 stone inscriptions commemorating the Wing King, created by military and political figures and local notables such as Yu Youren, Bai Chongxi, Liu Wenhui, and Lin Yuncai—many of which have now been damaged. The Wing King Pavilion was rebuilt in 1981, and the surrounding area was landscaped with flowers and plants, a pond was dug, a winding bridge was constructed, and pavilions were erected, creating a miniature park that has become one of the scenic spots in Shimian County.

Standing on Shier Mountain by the iron-chain bridge over the Dadu River to the north of Shimian County, the Wing King Pavilion was built to commemorate Shi Dakai’s defeat at the Dadu River. The hexagonal pavilion features carved wooden railings on all sides and a stone stele inscribed with “Record of the Wing King Pavilion.” Outside the pavilion, there are still more than 20 commemorative stone inscriptions about the Wing King. Below the pavilion, perilous cliffs and surging waves of the Dadu River crash violently against the shore, presenting a truly spectacular sight.
