Moye Hall

Introduction

Moye Hall is located in a corner to the northwest of Lingbao Peak. The "Ding Tang Stele Corridor" features calligraphy works handwritten by Guo Moruo. The exhibition room, with its blue bricks and gray tiles, is simple and elegant. It was built to commemorate Guo Moruo, a modern cultural giant born in Shawan, Leshan. The three characters “沫若堂” (Moye Hall) on the lintel were inscribed by Chu Tunan, while the couplet on both sides was written by the famous writer Ma Shitu. The upper line reads: “Inspired by Mount Emei, soul forged by the Dadu River, heart embracing all of China, thoughts tied to the common folk; his pen stirs mountains and rivers — truly the essence of a literary master.” The lower line reads: “The Goddess shocked the world, Qu Yuan’s spirit empowered, thunder and lightning praised, great waves set to verse; his poetry moves ghosts and gods — indeed the charm of a renowned scholar.” Moye Hall displays photos documenting Guo Moruo’s life and achievements, various editions of his works, as well as exhibitions of research findings related to him.

In front of the hall stands a full-length bronze statue of Guo Moruo delivering a speech in Chongqing during the War of Resistance, about 3 meters tall. Beside the statue looms a huge granite pen that is 6.5 meters high. The pen barrel is engraved with patterns from The Goddess, Qu Yuan, and The Phoenix Nirvana, celebrating the literary achievements of the great writer Guo Moruo in the history of literature.
