Aba Prefecture Museum

Aba Prefecture Museum is a comprehensive museum that serves as a key platform to showcase, promote, and introduce the unique natural environment, long history, profound culture, and remarkable achievements of Aba Prefecture, as well as a window for external exchanges. It is also an important base for spreading patriotism and popularizing social science knowledge among the general public and young people. The museum building is situated at No. 183 Majiang Street, Maerkang City, covering an area of approximately 3,000 square meters with a construction area of about 20,000 square meters. It is a six-story above-ground and one-story underground complex featuring a unique design and complete functions.

As a concentrated repository of the region’s historical and cultural heritage, Aba Prefecture Museum houses two permanent exhibitions: “Ancient Civilization, Enduring Legacy – The General History Exhibition of Aba Prefecture” and “Ethnic Corridor, Beautiful Homeland – The Ethnic Culture Exhibition of Aba Prefecture.” These exhibitions bring together the evolutionary trajectory of civilization across Aba Prefecture’s 5,000 years of history and over 80,000 square kilometers of land. Through the voices of history and artifacts, they vividly present the dawn of ancient civilization, the “Silk Road of Culture” forged by the integration, forging, and blending of various ethnic groups throughout history, the Red Army’s heroic “Path to National Liberation,” the “Path to Harmony” of ethnic unity, the “Path to Development” of reform and opening-up, the “Path to Life” of post-disaster reconstruction, and the promotion of invaluable spiritual legacies such as the shared honor and disgrace of the “National Spirit” left by our ancestors, the “Red Army Spirit” of hard struggle, and the “Aba Spirit” of self-reliance. These exhibitions aim to inherit the achievements and glory of our forebears and strengthen national self-esteem and confidence.

In addition to the permanent exhibitions, to enrich the cultural life of the residents of Maerkang and meet the cultural needs of people from all walks of life, the museum also regularly hosts or introduces temporary exhibitions and related cultural activities.
