Majiagou

The Majiagou Scenic Area is located within Daban Village, Lianghe Township. It is 8 km east of the seat of Lianghe Township government and 60 km west of Barkam County. The entrance (mountain gate) of the scenic area is situated beside S210 (Zhuoxiao Highway). The mountain range of Majiagou runs southwest to northeast, with higher terrain in the northwest and lower in the southeast. The entrance (mountain gate) is at an altitude of 3,090 meters, and the end of the valley (Moon Lake) is at 3,900 meters. Within the valley are several snow-capped peaks over 5,000 meters high, and modern glaciers have developed at the valley’s end, featuring distinct polar landform characteristics. The straight-line distance from the entrance to the valley end is about 15 km, but the travel distance is around 20 km. The entire scenic area covers approximately 100 square kilometers. The valley enjoys ample sunlight, with vegetation coverage exceeding 90%, and boasts rich plant resources. Various types of trees, flowers, and plants are scattered throughout the valley, representing a comprehensive range of plant families. Vegetation changes in layers according to altitude, displaying a colorful spectrum. The scenic area consists of five major sections: the Greater and Lesser Zhibulang sections, Ganhaizi section, Moon Lake section, Bazha Valley section, and the Valley End section. Major attractions include the Greater and Lesser Zhibulang Waterfalls, Willow Bay, Five-Color Lake, Lovers' Dream Forest, Ancient Post Station Ruins, Moon Lake, Serpentine River, and Taiji Lotus.

The scenic area features ancient cypress-shaded paths, alpine lakes, and waterfalls dozens of meters high, as well as unique rock formations. In spring, mountain flowers bloom alongside rapeseed blossoms; in autumn, red birch and maple compete in brilliance; in winter, jade-like trees and crystal branches shine under the sun, while age-old green pines and cypresses remain lush. Cascading waterfalls and flowing springs murmur through dense forests, and ancient post stations stretch through the vast wilderness. Walking here offers the sensation of experiencing all four seasons in one day, with each season presenting a different face.

Meadows: The scenic area is dotted with countless meadows of varying sizes, ranging from just a few acres to over a thousand. These expansive, flat meadows are blanketed with vibrant mountain flowers when in bloom, stretching for miles in dazzling colors, resembling intricately woven tapestries.

Legends: Every attraction in the Majiagou Scenic Area has its own story and legend—some romantic, such as the Lovers' Dream Forest and Moon Lake; others mysterious, like the Serpentine River, Iron Gate Pass, Fish Scale Rock, and Barrel Rock. These legends complement each other and are closely tied to their respective sites, enhanced by lifelike natural landscapes that are shrouded in mystery, sparking endless wonder and making visitors feel as though they’ve stepped into a fairy-tale kingdom.

The development of the Majiagou Scenic Area is relatively mature, with a dedicated Visitor Service and Reception Center that provides convenient services for meals, accommodation, and travel planning. The scenic area features route signs and attraction nameplates, with staff on duty. A parking lot has been built inside the valley (7 km from the mountain gate), where visitors can drive to park their vehicles and then enter the valley via boardwalks for sightseeing. Parking attendants are available at the lot. In the evening, the reception center offers performances of the local rGyalrong Tibetan folk culture, including song and dance, lamb hot pot dinners, and Guozhuang dance evenings.

The scenic area’s mountain gate and visitor reception center are located along S210 (Zhuoxiao Highway), accessible by bus, minibus, self-drive vehicles, motorcycles, or bicycles, with the entire route paved in concrete. From the mountain gate to the parking lot (near the Greater Zhibulang Waterfall), visitors can take minibuses or sports cars, but beyond the parking lot, travel must continue on foot or by horseback. Food and Accommodation: The Majiagou Scenic Area Visitor Service Reception Center offers standard rooms and a restaurant capable of hosting group visitors.
