Site of the Meeting of the First and Fourth Red Army Forces

The site of the meeting of the First and Fourth Red Army Forces is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The meeting site includes two parts: the Dawei Meeting Bridge and the former site of the Cadre Friendship Gathering at the Catholic Church in the old Maogong County. The Dawei Meeting Bridge is located on the Wori River, one kilometer east of Dawei Town in Xiaojin County. The Catholic Church is situated within the compound of the Xiaojin County Committee of the Communist Party of China. On June 12, 1935, the vanguard unit of the First Red Army—the Fourth Regiment of the Second Division—set out from Qiaoqi in Baoxing, crossed the first major snow mountain on the Long March—Jiajin Mountain—and successfully met with the welcoming Twenty-Seventh Regiment of the Twentieth Division of the Ninth Army of the Fourth Red Army on the Dawei Bridge. The next day, when the central authorities crossed Jiajin Mountain and arrived at Dawei, they were welcomed with a guard of honor by the receiving forces of the Fourth Red Army on the Dawei Bridge. On June 14, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the First Red Army set off from Dawei for Maogong County. On the 21st, the General Political Department held a friendship gathering for cadres above the regiment level of both armies stationed in Maogong at the Catholic Church. Mao Zedong met with senior cadres of the Fourth Red Army stationed in Maogong at his residence, analyzed the situation in detail, and laid out the guidelines and tasks following the meeting of the two forces. The successful meeting of the two main forces marked a new chapter in the Chinese revolution.
