Five Flower Lake is the pride of Jiuzhaigou and hailed as “the most spectacular sight in Jiuzhaigou.” Within the same body of water, shades such as light red, pale yellow, dark green, deep blue, and sapphire blue appear, creating a mottled, dreamy, and vibrant palette.

Five Flower Lake is located at the upper reaches of the Peacock River in the Rize Valley, at an altitude of 2,472 meters, with a depth of 5 meters and an area of 90,000 square meters.

The stunning colors of Five Flower Lake are formed due to differences in the distribution of underwater travertine deposits, vivid algae, and submerged vegetation. The colorful patches in the lake resemble a giant ornament inlaid with countless gems, gleaming with radiant splendor and elegance.

Most of the colorful foliage in Five Flower Lake is concentrated near the lakeshore by the water outlet. In autumn, the reflection of the colorful forest on the lakeside blends with the colors from the lake bottom, creating a world of dazzling hues that even surpasses the imagination of painters.

The locals of Jiuzhaigou say: Five Flower Lake is a sacred pool. Wherever its waters flow, flowers bloom, forests thrive, and beauty and abundance follow.

Photography Tips:

Five Flower Lake is the highlight of Jiuzhaigou’s scenery. The best high-angle spot to capture its full view is Tiger Mouth. Standing at the viewing platform, you can take in the entire lake. Tiger Mouth is a mandatory passageway into the Rize Valley. Because it’s a bend and an uphill section, drivers usually don’t stop there. You can either get off at Five Flower Lake and walk up, or visit Panda Lake and then walk down along the road.
