An immersive experience at the dreamlike lakes of Jiuzhaigou, a place filled with poetic charm

Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area is a protected zone located in northern Sichuan Province, mainland China. This area boasts dreamlike scenery all year round, especially its extraordinarily clear lakes and waterfalls. In 1992, it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was also the filming location for the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." Additionally, the area serves as a habitat for endangered species such as giant pandas, golden snub-nosed monkeys, and Sichuan takins.

According to local folklore, the unique lake views in the region have a special origin. It is said that a god gifted a mirror to a goddess, but the goddess, who lived in heaven, accidentally dropped and shattered the mirror. As it fell to the earth, the gift broke into 118 pieces — which are the 118 lakes we see today.
