Dalu Tibetan Village

Dalu Tibetan Village is located in Dalu Township and is one of the better-preserved villages in Jiuzhaigou County. The ancient wooden houses with their plank wood roofs fully reflect the primitive and traditional style of the Tibetan people in Jiuzhaigou. A wealth of culturally Tibetan village features — including temples, prayer wheels, prayer flags, lungta prayer papers, mills, drying racks, and covered bridges — create a rich atmosphere of local folklore and Tibetan rural charm.

The wooden houses in Dalu Tibetan Village of Jiuzhaigou are stone-and-timber structures, typically two to three stories high. Round logs are used as pillars, with stone walls built around. Wooden planks and poles are laid against the walls, then covered with packed earth. The ground floor is used as livestock pens, while the upper floors are enclosed with wooden board walls, and each room is partitioned with wooden boards to serve as living rooms, prayer halls, kitchens, and bedrooms. Each house faces a different direction, and prayer flags are erected in front of and behind the houses, as well as at the entrance of the village.

These Tibetan-style wooden houses are aesthetically pleasing, with large windows and balconies on the upper floors. The interiors and exteriors feature exquisite carvings, and the walls and panels are painted with colorful floral and animal patterns using five hues. Animal images such as lions and tigers are pasted on the doors, featuring bright colors and auspicious designs.
