Jiawu Sea is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Jiawu Sea Scenic Area is located in Wujiao Baima Tibetan Township, Jiuzhaigou County, at an altitude of 2,000 meters. With distinct seasons, a pleasant climate, warm winters and cool summers, and over 2,000 hours of annual sunshine, it is an ideal spot for sunbathing. Surrounded by forests and deep waters, the area is home to a rich variety of rare birds and animals, and is one of the concentrated habitats of the national treasure, the giant panda. Jiawu Sea is a large alpine lake, stretching 6 kilometers in length with a surface area of nearly 400 acres. It combines the beauty of water bodies, pristine ecology, and cultural richness. The lake is surrounded by towering mountains; in spring and summer, the green hills blend seamlessly with the water, while in autumn and winter, the mountains are ablaze with red leaves, creating enchanting scenery of lake and mountain.

The scenic area offers highland lake eco-tourism and red leaf valley forest landscape viewing, along with activities such as water sports, hiking, horseback riding tours, and professional scientific expeditions. Surrounded by majestic mountains, the area is covered with dozens of plant species including fir, spruce, larch, birch, kingdonia uniflora, and alpine azaleas. Exploring Jiawu Sea requires hiking through an uninhabited area. When you enter this primitive forest—devoid of people, signals, and roads—the air seems to freeze instantly, and time appears to stand still. The silence in the forest is suffocating; you can hear your own heartbeat and breathing, and even the dripping of raindrops from the leaves is strikingly clear. The sound of the clear stream actually comes from deep within the forest, and the rustling of footsteps on dead leaves makes you reluctant to slow down.

In autumn, the mountains on both sides of the lake are covered with brilliantly colored red leaves in a myriad of hues. Jiawu Sea may not be the fairy-tale world of Jiuzhaigou, nor the ethereal beauty of Nenɡsangcuo, but Jiawu Sea is Jiawu Sea—timeless, ancient, and deeply evocative. Indeed, Jiawu Sea boasts a clear sky, forested surroundings, bright mountains, beautiful waters, picturesque lake and mountain views, deep forests, and serene waters, all set against undulating mountain ranges. The sweeping red leaves dye the forests in vibrant colors, covering every inch of the mountains, intoxicating the colorful woods, shining like rosy clouds—it is truly “brilliantly colored and richly diverse.”

The panda house within the scenic area has four panda enclosures, each featuring indoor spaces, outdoor activity areas, and medical care zones.

The nature reserve is home to the Baima Tibetan people. They are known for their singing and dancing, and they revere the belief that “all things have spirits.” To this day, they maintain ancient forms of nature worship and totem worship, and have passed down traditions such as the V Dance, Fire Circle Dance, Panda Dance, and Sacred Tree Worship.
