Stretching nearly 10 Chinese li with numerous twists and turns, the Huangya Grand Canyon is a mysterious and fantastical place. It is home to more than 30 waterfalls of varying heights, among which the most magnificent is the Huangyan Waterfall. With a drop of over 70 meters and a width of more than 20 meters, it cascades like a massive white silk ribbon down a sheer cliff into a verdant mountain pool, sending up billowing white mist. The sight is both grand and breathtaking. The Huangyan Canyon and its surrounding areas boast exceptionally pristine ecological conditions. In addition to multiple peaks over 1,000 meters in elevation — such as Xianrenjian (Immortal Peak), Guanyinjian (Guanyin Peak), and Shanjian (Fir Peak) — the region preserves 20,000 mu of dense, untouched primeval forest. With steep mountains, lush woodlands, and clear streams meandering through, the natural scenery is stunningly beautiful. Professor Xie Ninggao, a renowned expert in scenic studies and Director of the World Heritage Research Center at Peking University, along with Professor Yang Jingchun, an urban environmental studies professor at Peking University, visited the Huangyan Canyon scenic area and praised it as having “a beautiful environment and breathtaking scenery.”
