The Huili County Red Army Long March Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination, as well as a patriotic education base and national defense education base.

The Red Army Long March Memorial Hall is located at No. 8, East Street, Chengxiang Town. The building was constructed during the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty, with a construction area of 404.32 square meters. It features a brick-and-wood structure and a triple-hall layout. When the Red Army passed through Mianning during the Long March, it served as the headquarters of the Red Army’s General Command. On May 3, 1935, the First Front Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army, under the leadership of Mao Zedong and others, crossed the Jinsha River via the Jiaopingdu crossing and entered Liangshan. The journey lasted 31 days, during which the Central Red Army established the first revolutionary government in Liangshan — the Mianning County Revolutionary Committee — and also formed the first revolutionary armed force — the Late-Stage Mianning County Anti-Taxation Army. On May 23, 1935, Mao Zedong met here with Yi ethnic representatives such as Guoji Danye and underground party representatives from Mianning.

In 1965, it was turned into the Red Army Long March Memorial Hall. To this day, the original layout of the hall where Mao Zedong met with Yi representatives and underground party members has been preserved, along with nearly 200 exhibits including documents, cultural relics, and photographs. Among the displayed artifacts is the “Proclamation of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army,” issued under the name of Commander-in-Chief — after the Red Army entered Mianning. This was the first time the phrase “Long March of the Red Army” was used. From then on, the term “Long March” spread from Mianning to Liangshan, across the nation, and even around the world. On July 7, 1980, it was designated as a Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the People’s Government of Sichuan Province. After the launch of the National Red Tourism Project, it was listed as one of the hundred classic red tourism scenic spots in China.

Opening Hours: Open year-round with flexible and extended hours, free of charge. Open every Monday to Sunday. Summer hours (May 1 to October 31): 8:30–20:30 (last entry at 20:00); Winter hours (November 1 to April 30): 8:30–19:00 (last entry at 18:30).
