Former Residence Memorial Museum of Chen Duxiu

The Former Residence Memorial Museum of Chen Duxiu is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a municipal cultural relic protection unit in Chongqing.

The former residence of Chen Duxiu is located in Shiqiang Village, Jijiang Subdistrict Office, Jiangjin District, Chongqing, about 15 kilometers from downtown Jiangjin. In 2000, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit in Chongqing, and in December 2013, it was approved as a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The residence was originally built in the third year of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1864). It was once the ancestral home of Yang Lucheng, a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations during the Qianlong reign. In May 1939, Chen Duxiu resided in the eastern wing room of this house.

The former residence of Chen Duxiu has a traditional quadrangle layout, facing south and situated to the north. It is constructed with earth, stone, and wood, covering an area of 7 mu (approximately 0.47 hectares) with a total floor space of 3,300 square meters. At that time, the three eastern wing rooms where Chen Duxiu and his wife Pan Lanzhen lived were arranged from south to north as bedroom, guest hall, and study. The residence exhibits typical architectural features of Qing Dynasty civilian homes and is the only fully preserved site where Chen Duxiu once lived. After moving in, Chen Duxiu lived a reclusive life, devoting himself to writing, maintaining a life of simplicity, resisting the temptations of the Kuomintang government, and enduring a life of hardship until he passed away here on May 27, 1942.

Transportation: From Chongqing, take a bus from Longtousi, Caiyuanba, or Chenjiaping to Jiangjin Bus Terminal, then transfer to a bus heading to Xianfeng Town. From there, take a taxi or minibus to Shiqiang Village.
