Former Residence of Jiang Gong

The Former Residence of Jiang Gong is a cultural relic protection unit of Chongqing Municipality.

The Former Residence of Jiang Gong is located on Shizi Street in Jijiang Town, Jiangjin City, dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.

The Former Residence of Jiang Gong was the residence of Jiang Yuan, a grand secretary of the Ming Dynasty, in his hometown of Jiangjin. The building faces south and is constructed with a combination of brick, wood, and stone. It features a flush gable roof and follows a compound layout with three courtyards and two side wings, showcasing a strictly ordered and rigorous structure. A three-tiered staircase leads up to the front platform. The building is 21 meters wide and 47 meters deep in total, with a vertical plaque at the gate inscribed with “Former Residence of Jiang Gong.” On both sides of the gate are couplets reading “Residence of a Northern Meritorious Official, Home of a Western Sichuan Prime Minister.” At the center above the gate lintel is another vertical plaque also inscribed with “Former Residence of Jiang Gong.” All are carved in regular script relief, with bold and steady strokes. These inscriptions were personally bestowed by Emperor Zhu Jianshen (the Chenghua Emperor) of the Ming Dynasty to commend Jiang Yuan’s meritorious service. The bracket arms of each hall are adorned with wooden carvings featuring Ming-style dramatic scenes and floral designs.

In 2000, the Former Residence of Jiang Gong was listed as one of the first batch of cultural relic protection units of Chongqing Municipality by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government.
