Jiangjin Liji Bridge is a Chongqing Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Jiangjin Liji Bridge is located on Ciba Street in Zhuyang Town, Jiangjin City, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

In Banqiaochang, Zhuyang Town, Jiangjin District, Chongqing, there stands an ancient bridge that has withstood over 180 years of wind and rain — Liji Bridge, also known as the “Everlasting Bridge.” Locals commonly refer to it as “Banqiao.” Spanning the Rongxi River, the bridge is entirely built of stone. The structure of Liji Bridge is majestic and spectacular, and its carved railings and ornamental balustrades make it a remarkable sight.

Liji Bridge was funded and constructed through community grain donations in the late Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty and completed in the sixth year of the Daoguang reign (1826). It is 84 meters long, 8.8 meters wide, and 13.2 meters high, renowned across both Jiangjin and Yongchuan districts and recognized as one of Chongqing’s municipal-level key cultural relics. Stone archways commemorating Yang family chastity stand at the bridgeheads, while the stone railings on both sides are engraved with patterns and motifs. A legendary “Immortal Stone,” still embedded in the middle of the bridge deck, adds to its mystique. Despite enduring centuries of wind, rain, raging waters, and storms, its grandeur and beauty continue to awe visitors, and tales of its origin remain widely told through generations.

Embedded within Liji Bridge is a uniquely shaped ten-sided stone. Legend has it that this stone was a celestial gift bestowed upon the bridge builders after their fundraising efforts moved the heavens, hence it is called the “Immortal Stone,” also known as the “Lu Ban Stone.”

At both ends of the bridge, there were originally one large and one small stone memorial archways, guarded by two exquisitely carved stone lions. One of the archways was erected by a local scholar in honor of his adoptive mother. On one side of the bridgehead, there once stood a Wenchang Temple, which, in its heyday, attracted worshippers from surrounding villages who came to burn incense and pray.

In 2000, Jiangjin Liji Bridge was announced by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government as part of the first batch of Chongqing Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Zhuyang Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Jiangjin City. Established as Zhuyang Township in 1953, renamed Zhuyang Commune in 1958, then Zhuyang Commune again in 1980, reverted to Zhuyang Township in 1984, and became a town in 1985.
