Lotus Stone Inscriptions

The Lotus Stone Inscriptions are a cultural relic protection unit of Chongqing Municipality.

The Lotus Stone Inscriptions are located in the Yangtze River south of Jijiang Town, Jiangjin City, dating from the Song to the Qing dynasties.

The hydrological inscriptions on the Lotus Stone are situated in the river water on the north side of the Yangtze River channel, outside the east gate of Jijiang, Jiangjin District, approximately 100 meters from the Jijiang Yangtze River Bridge.

It consists of 36 various-sized reefs and 38 sections of inscriptions, with a height of 180.89 meters, and the fully exposed area can reach over 800 square meters. It earned its name because it resembles a blooming lotus flower.

As the inscriptions on the stone record nearly 800 years of low-water levels in the Yangtze River, and given its location at the uppermost part of the Chongqing section of the river, it serves as an important reference for historical hydrological data in the upper Yangtze. Additionally, the poetry, calligraphy, and carving art on the stone all hold research value.

In 2000, the Lotus Stone Inscriptions were announced by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government as part of the first batch of municipal cultural relic protection units.
