The university covers an area of over 2,000 acres, with a total building area of more than 500,000 square meters and teaching equipment valued at over 95.8 million yuan. Its new campus in Chongqing University Town spans 1,500 acres, bordered by the Gele Mountain National Forest Park to the east and the Jinyun Mountain National Forest Park to the west, enjoying a uniquely advantageous geographical location. The campus is fully equipped with facilities for learning, living, and cultural and sports activities. It has been recognized as a “Civilized Unit” and a “Garden-Style Unit” in Chongqing, brimming with vitality. The university library has a construction area of over 42,000 square meters, houses a collection of more than 600,000 books, and provides a wealth of digital information resources.

The university currently has over 1,360 faculty and staff members, including more than 810 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are over 310 associate professors and professors, 58 doctoral degree holders, 372 master's degree holders, and over 160 students pursuing master's or doctoral degrees. There are also 8 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, 1 middle-aged or young expert with outstanding contributions at the provincial (municipal) level or above, 2 academic leaders, 10 key teachers, and 29 young and middle-aged key teachers (under subsidy programs). The university has over 15,000 full-time undergraduate students from all 31 provinces (municipalities/autonomous regions) across China. Rooted in the petroleum and metallurgical industries, the university has maintained a first-time graduate employment rate of over 90% in recent years.

The university currently comprises 15 secondary colleges and departments, including the College of Petroleum Engineering, College of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, College of Mechanical Engineering, College of Electronic and Information Engineering, College of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, College of Civil Engineering, College of Safety Engineering, College of Management, Department of Economics, Department of Mathematics and Physics, Department of Biology, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Art, Department of Foreign Languages, and Department of Physical Education. It also has an Adult Education College and an Self-taught Examination Office. A total of 29 undergraduate majors are offered, such as Petroleum Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Chemical Engineering and Technology, International Economics and Trade, Computer Science and Technology, Accounting, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, English, Chinese Language and Literature, and Art Design, along with a number of associate degree programs.

The university adheres to the educational philosophy of “cultivating talent, advancing science, and serving society,” and follows the development strategy of “rooted in Chongqing, backed by industries, facing the world, and serving the nation.” It actively implements the development strategies of “building the university with distinctive features, promoting it through culture, and strengthening it with talent,” and has set the goal of establishing itself as a high-level, distinctive science and technology university with national recognition and international influence at an early date.

The university actively engages in domestic and international cooperative education and scientific research. In recent years, it has established teaching, research, and talent cultivation partnerships with institutions such as Chongqing University, University of Science and Technology Beijing, China University of Petroleum, Yanshan University, Southwest Petroleum University, Chongqing Institute of Technology, and the PLA Logistics Engineering University. Relying on its industry connections, it has signed industry-academia-research cooperation agreements with companies including PetroChina, Sinopec, CNOOC, and a number of metallurgical enterprises. The university also actively promotes international exchanges and cooperation, having established friendly relations with foreign universities and international industry organizations such as Changwon National University in South Korea, Cook University in the United States, Holland College in Canada, Ritsumeikan University in Japan, Covanta Energy Corporation in the United States, and the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC).

The university takes teaching as its core endeavor, actively conducts scientific research, and undertakes a number of key projects under the National 863 Program, National Natural Science Foundation, and Humanities and Social Sciences Fund, as well as industry-academia-research collaborative projects in technological development and product design. In 2007, the university’s research funding exceeded 30 million yuan. Its research achievements have won 1 National Technology Invention Award, 25 provincial and ministerial-level Science and Technology Progress Awards, 8 provincial (ministerial) level or above Teaching Achievement Awards, 21 national patents, and over 40 papers have been indexed and included in the U.S. Science Citation Index (SCI) and Engineering Index (EI).

It is committed to creating a favorable environment for students’ healthy growth, all-round development, life, study, and research, and has trained over 60,000 professionals of various levels for society. The university organizes a rich variety of activities, including Cultural and Art Festivals, Science and Technology Innovation Festivals, Sports and Culture Festivals, social surveys, volunteer services, the “Three Goes to the Countryside” activities for college students in literature, art, science, and health, as well as thematic series such as “Red May · Youth Growth,” English speech contests, computer skills competitions, and extracurricular science and technology project competitions for college students. Students have won over 120 national and provincial awards in competitions related to college mathematics modeling, electronic design and production, and sports dance.

In 2007, our university’s women’s football team won the runner-up in the National College Women’s Football Championship.

Standing at a new historical starting point and shouldering new historical missions, the First Congress of Chongqing University of Science and Technology put forward the grand goal of building a high-level, distinctive science and technology university. Born alongside the historical processes of educational reform, development, and Chongqing’s status as a municipality directly under the central government, Chongqing University of Science and Technology will surely soar together with Chongqing’s “new special zone.”
