Former Site of the Expanded Meeting of the Provisional Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC and Former Residence of Zhou Gongzhi

The former site of the expanded meeting of the Provisional Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC and the former residence of Zhou Gongzhi are designated as a Chongqing Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of the expanded meeting of the Provisional Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC and the former residence of Zhou Gongzhi are located in Zhoujiadawan, Dashitao Village, Group 1, Tongguanyi Town, Jiulongpo District. The residence was originally built during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period, featuring a traditional three-sided courtyard layout. The existing structures include the main house and wing rooms on both sides, with a front courtyard covering a construction area of 412 square meters. The site is currently undergoing exhibition design work and has not yet been opened to the public. It marks the founding location of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC and is an important revolutionary heritage site related to the early activities of the provincial leadership.

During the "March 31 Massacre" in Chongqing, leaders of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPC, including Yang Angong and Ran Jun, were killed—casting a shadow over the city, with most surviving revolutionary cadres relocating. In July 1927, the Central Committee of the CPC dispatched Fu Lie, Zhou Gongzhi, Zhong Mengxia, Liu Piyun, and Niu Daming from Wuhan to Sichuan to reorganize and revive the Party’s organization there. Fu Lie and Zhou Gongzhi returned to Chongqing and established the Provisional Provincial Committee of the CPC in Sichuan on August 12 in the urban area, with Fu Lie as secretary, Zhou Gongzhi as head of the Organization Bureau and secretary for peasant movement affairs, while Liu Yu’an, secretary of the Western Sichuan Special Committee, was appointed head of propaganda, and Niu Daming as secretary-general. The damaged leadership of the Sichuan Party organization was thus restored. In September, the expanded meeting of the provisional provincial committee was held at Zhou Gongzhi’s former residence to discuss and implement the directives of the August 7th Meeting of the CPC Central Committee. Political and organizational work reports, among other documents, were adopted. After more than two months of intensive efforts, new district committees in Chongqing and special branches in Jiangjin, Qijiang, and other areas were established. Party organizations in over 30 cities and counties across Chongqing and Sichuan were restored or rebuilt, with 442 party members registered. By December, membership had grown to over 600, marking the revival of the Party organization in Sichuan after its destruction.
