Former Residence of Liu Bocheng at Liudianzi

The Former Residence of Liu Bocheng at Liudianzi is a cultural relic protection unit of Chongqing Municipality.

The Former Residence of Liu Bocheng at Liudianzi is located in Yandengshan Park, Shiqiaopu, Jiulongpo District. The original residence was situated in Yuzhoulu Subdistrict, Jiulongpo District. In 1995, a fire destroyed most of the structure. It was later reconstructed at a 1:1 scale at the current site and opened to the public in June 2012. The memorial museum consists of three exhibition areas, eight display halls, one bedroom, one horse stable, and displays over 40 sets of cultural relics (mostly replicas), authentically reflecting the historical scenes of Liu Bocheng’s battles, work, and life at the residence.

In 1924, Liu Bocheng came to Chongqing and purchased a wooden residential house built during the late Qing Dynasty in Shiqiaopu, where he lived for over three years while secretly conducting revolutionary work. At that time, the area had six small shops offering food, accommodation, tea, tobacco, medicine, and oil products, hence the name Liudianzi (Six Shops). In May 1926, introduced by Yang Angong and Wu Yuzhang, Liu Bocheng officially joined the Chinese Communist Party. In November of the same year, following instructions from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Yang Angong, Zhu De, Liu Bocheng, and others held a meeting of the Military Commission of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPC at the former residence in Liudian, determining the plans, strategies, and operational schemes for the Luzhou-Shunqing Uprising. After the failure of the uprising, Liu Bocheng entrusted the property to relatives and allocated it for use by the families of martyrs who died in the uprising.

Yuzhoulu Subdistrict: 1. Topography and Landform

Yuzhoulu Subdistrict is located in a plateau-like mid-hilly belt with flatland areas. Due to erosion by the Jialing River on the eastern and northern sides, and by low mountain streams on the northwest side, it forms a relatively low hilly and broad-valley region, with plateau-like mid-hills only about 100 meters above sea level. The northwestern part, including Gaomiao Village, has some areas cut into “V”-shaped valleys, while most other regions feature alternating exposures of mudstone and sandstone; mudstone exposures erode into low hills, and sandstone exposures form broad valley plains.
